To spice up SKyPAC’s spring season is the wildly popular Burlesque to Broadway starring Quinn Lemley, Friday, March 3! Grab your guy or gal for a night that’s fun, flirtatious and all about the tease! The show will recall the theater’s early days of vaudeville and burlesque with “Burlesque to Broadway”. Quinn Lemley, her 4 showgirl divas and an intoxicating live big band straight from New York City. Complete with sequins, feathers and fans! Prepare yourself to be mesmerized with one explosive hit song after another! God Save the Queen – Cancels Tour
We learned this week that God Save the Queen unilaterally canceled their North American tour and they will no longer be performing at SKyPAC on February 18, 2017. Since the notification, we have been working with agents to find a replacement show, and we have a great one: The Ultimate Queen Celebration starring Marc Martel which will perform at SKyPAC on June 10, 2017. If you are an American Idol fan, you may remember Marc’s outstanding performance that brought everyone to their feet. Currently known worldwide as the greatest Freddy Mercury singer today, we are delighted to have Marc with us in June. For those who have already purchased seats for God Save the Queen, your tickets will be honored for the upcoming show, and you will retain the same seats. Give a Gift Made in Kentucky Campaign Kicks Off

(Nov. 22, 2016) —The Kentucky Arts Council, with the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, launched the 2016 “Give a Gift Made in Kentucky” campaign today. The campaign, which features a variety of work by Kentucky-based artists, will run through Dec. 31. Artists in Kentucky Arts Council’s Kentucky Crafted, Architectural Artists and Performing Artists directories as well as Al Smith Individual Artist Fellowship recipients will feature their studios, galleries and shops for holiday open houses and other events showcasing their work. In addition, the Give a Gift Web pages will feature holiday events from the arts council’s Kentucky Arts Partnership organizations. These events will run through the entire “Give a Gift” campaign, and are located throughout the state. We are excited to share that #MyGivingStory is back for a second year to help you share why you support nonprofits this #GivingTuesday and beyond. #MyGivingStory is a nationwide campaign and social media storytelling contest that will foster a public discussion about the reasons people give. Working in collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Facebook, we are asking “everyday givers” to reflect upon why they give to a certain nonprofit organization and then share these personal stories on social media. Blues in Schools Makes Its Way to Butler Co.
The Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center (SKyPAC) partners with the Kentucky Blues Society again to take the Blues in Schools program to the Butler County Middle and High Schools on Tuesday, October 18, 2016. The group is composed of keyboard player and vocalist, Kenny Lee, harmonica player, Lee Hammer and guitarist, Jim Morris, also known as former professional wrestler “Hillbilly Jim.” The group will conduct two Blues workshops, one each at the middle school and high school in Butler County. Each student participant in the workshops will receive their own harmonica provided courtesy of Hohner Harmonica and SKyPAC. “The Kentucky Blues Society has been teaching Kentucky’s rich Blues history through the Blues in Schools since 2005, as well as involving students in Blues performance and musical techniques. The first Blues guitar recording ever made was by a Kentuckian. Orchestra Kentucky Proudly Announces New Executive Director
Orchestra Kentucky is proud to announce the appointment of Scott Watkins as our new Executive Director. Scott previously served as the Executive Director of the South Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. He started his orchestra management career at the Dallas Symphony and thereafter served in leadership positions at Symphony Arlington, Corpus Christi Symphony, Las Colinas Symphony, and the South Arkansas Symphony. He has studied music and received degrees from Northern Arizona University, University of Phoenix, and University of North Texas. Watkins has been awarded the Priddy Fellowship in Arts Leadership and was a finalist for the League of American Symphony Orchestra’s Fellowship Program. Scott and his wife, Karen, have five children (two in college), two cats, and a dog. We hope you will join us in welcoming Scott and his family to our community.
