Gillian Welch and David Rawlings are iconic figures in modern acoustic music, celebrated as “modern masters of American folk” by Pitchfork and “protectors of the American folk song” by Rolling Stone. Their careers, spanning over twenty-five years, began in the 1990s when Welch’s song “Orphan Girl” was covered by Emmylou Harris. Their critically acclaimed debut album Revival followed in 1996.

Welch won a GRAMMY in 2000 for the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack, and their album Time (The Revelator) is hailed as one of the best of the 2000s. They self-produce and release all their music on their label, Acony Records. Notable works include Soul Journey (2003), The Harrow and The Harvest (2011), and Nashville Obsolete (2015). Their song “Cumberland Gap” from Poor David’s Almanack (2017) became a streaming hit.

In 2018, Welch received the Thomas Wolfe Prize for Literature. They were nominated for an Academy Award in 2019 for their song in The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs. Their 2020 album All the Good Times won the GRAMMY for Best Folk Album. Recently, they were honored with the Berklee American Masters Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting from the Americana Music Association.
